About dosing
Do I need a prescription? Not for anything on these shelves — Panacur C and the equine pastes are over-the-counter in the US. Over-the-counter means available, not unsupervised: keep your vet steering the schedule.
My dog weighs 15 pounds and there is no 15-pound box. Round up — the label itself says a dog between sizes gets the next packet up, so a 15-pounder eats the 2 gram white box. Fenbendazole's wide safety margin makes rounding up the correct habit, not a gamble.
Why three days when single-dose wormers exist? Because fenbendazole kills by slow starvation of the worm, which needs sustained exposure — three mornings covers every stage that a one-day wave washes over. The long answer is pinned by the door under 'Why Panacur takes three mornings in a row'.
Can I give horse paste to a dog, or split dog packets for the cat? No, and no. Species, formulation and concentration all differ — the room splits into a dog shelf and a horse shelf for exactly this reason, and cats are a conversation for a vet, not a measuring spoon.
Is it safe for pregnant or nursing dogs? The label says yes, pregnant dams included; worming the dam alongside the pups' 6-8-10-12 week schedule is standard practice. Confirm the timing with your vet, as always.
About what happens after
The tapeworm segments came back after a full course. Then they are almost certainly Dipylidium, the flea-borne tapeworm fenbendazole does not touch — that is a praziquantel-plus-flea-control problem and a vet visit, not a second course of the same drug.
My dog seemed fine and the float still came back positive. Not unusual — some burdens need a repeat course or a different drug, and reinfection from a seeded yard is the whipworm's whole strategy. Bring the result to your vet and worm every dog on the property in the same window.
